Blog 11 L’Oreal Paris

Hello everyone,

The last topic I wanted to discuss was L’Oreal Paris. It’s because I always use their make-up products. L’Oreal Paris has a brilliant marketing strategy. That’s why it’s the worlds largest cosmetics company. They are famous because of the TV-commercials with cover girls. L’Oreal is one of the big sponsors off America’s Next Top model. The girl who wins the contest becomes the cover girl of L’Oreal. Most of the people don’t know that L’Oreal begun as only a hair colour line. And then became bigger. I like these products it makes you feel beautiful. Beyonce is one of the covergirls for L'Oreal she looks bautiful in the commercials. I think a lot of people would like to be her. That's one of the things dat this company is trying to do. So there slogan is if you want to be like one of the covergirls just use the product.

Blog 12 The end

Hello everyone,
So this would be my last blog. I had never written a blog before this one. I found it hard to do so First of all I had many obstacles. My first blog was removed because I had to pay for it. I was glad that I copied al of the blogs in a word file. So the only thing I had to do was copy and paste it. I like to write this blog because it was about all of my passions. I wanted to give you my opinion about different subjects. I wanted to tell you that I think Coca Cola is better than Pepsi. I Also found the telephone blogs very interesting. But at the end I did my best to write this blog and maybe I will keep writing.

Blog 10 Social Network

Hello everyone,
The meaning of Social Network: A social network service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, e.g., who share interests and/or activities. I think that Social Networking became much more important last few years. Lots of people in the World have a profile on Facebook or Twitter. In the Netherlands Hyves is very famous. Social Networks are a good way to introduce you product. In a few seconds you can reach more than millions of people. Every company that I have mentioned in my blog has used social networking. One of the many benefits of social marketing is that the company can choose who it wants to contact. But there are not only benefits, sometimes you can get a virus if you open up a wrong link or make friends with the wrong person. There are more dangers because if you post something on your Hyves you have no privacy. Later when you are trying to get a job your boss can just Google you and then everything you posted all you pictures are displayed. I hope you have learned something about Social networking.

Blog 9 Louis Vuitton vs. Gucci

Hello everybody,

Yesterday I didn’t have the space to write about Gucci so that’s today topic. Gucci started in 1921 as an Italian fashion and leather label and is owned by and French Company. Their most famous product is a leather bag with bamboo grips. They use two G’s for the logo against each other. In 1989 the family of Gucci started fighting about the brand. One off the brothers sold almost 50 percent off the company to an Arabic brand. That was not good for Gucci the credibility off the company. In 1990 Tom Ford the new company leader of Gucci got the company back in his old glory. Gucci became one of the biggest luxury brands. And now it’s known for its spectacular fashion shows in Milan, Paris and Rome. Gucci is also known as the fragrance.  You can’t only wear Gucci but also smell like it. The Gucci campaigns have a certain old vibe to it. Most of the pictures are in black and white and very glamorous. After researching about fashion I am more excited to finish my study.

Blog 8 Louis Vuitton vs. Gucci

Hello everybody,

Today’s topics are fashion brands.
I find this topic very exciting because when I am done with my study I would like to work at a big fashion brand as marketing manager. These days fashion has become very important. Today I am going to write about two big woman’s fashion brands. First of all Louis Vuitton, last year I went to Paris to this shop and it was huge. They had everything from clothes to jewellery, and wallets to suitcases. The trademark off Louis Vuitton is the letters L and V on top of each other.  Because the brand is so expensive there are many fake copies of it. That’s why the brand gives you a certificated when you buy a real one. Next we have the brand Gucci, it’s also a sophisticated brand. I will write about that topic tomorrow. Back to Louis Vuitton it was founded in 1854 in France as a luxury brand. The promotion was done word by mouth. That was very interesting because almost every company made TV-commercials but this company didn’t need one. Louis Vuitton was known as a brand that only rich people could buy and only big fashion houses could sell this brand. I hope you have enjoyed my blogs for now.

Blog 7 topic 3 Coca Cola vs. Pepsi

Hello everyone,
This is my follow up to yesterday’s topics Coca Cola vs. Pepsi.
I wanted to talk about the promotion of these two brands. Coca cola is famous because of their TV-commercials with Christmas.
You can see the ideals from Coca Cola because in this commercial people come together. Also you see the famous Coca Cola Santa Claus. You can see that family is important.
The Pepsi commercial from 2010: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcWS8xdiSVI
Pepsi uses famous people on the commercials to introduce their product. Here you see 3 famous soccer players in Afrika, having fun. This commercial is meant for the world cup and younger people.
Both of the companies use a lot of famous people to introduce their products. I have made a short list of examples for each company.
Coca-Cola
Pepsi ( almost only singers )
Santa Claus
Shakira
Penelope
Companies: FIFA
Mc Donald’s
Olympic Games
Jeff Gordon
Michael Jackson
Britney Spears
Pink
Beyonce
Christina Aguilera
Mariah Carey
Janet Jackson etc.

Blog 6 topic 3 Coca Cola vs. Pepsi

Dear Readers,

This week’s topic is the two multinationals Coca Cola and Pepsi. This topic I like the most because I have a strong opinion about it.  Almost my whole life I drank Coca Cola. I think that Pepsi tastes horrible. But let’s look at the marketing side of the product.  First off all, what do they have in common? They both have a secret recipe and have a lot of promotion. How did it all begin with these huge companies? Coca cola started in 1886 as a small company. The logo, bottle and cola together are the brand. Coca Cola came to the Netherlands in 1928 with the Olympic Games. Since that time the company stayed in the Netherlands and became a big soda brand. Today the world without Coca Cola is unthinkable. The biggest enemy for Coca Cola is Pepsi and started in 1893. Pepsi focus itself on the slogans and tried to get famous because of it. Almost every 10 years Pepsi  comes up with an new slogan, the current one is: Refresh you world . In 1975 Pepsi introduced the Pepsi Challenge. It was a tasting challenge of the two big brands. The result was very interesting most of the people liked Pepsi’s taste more than Coca Cola. So in the next few years Coca Cola came up with an new recipe and took the lead until now.
That’s it for today.

Blog 5 Topic 2 McDonalds vs. Burger King

Hello everyone,

This is my follow up to yesterdays topic McDonalds vs. Burger King
I think that using a logo is very important for a company. It can make or break it. The logo has to be memorable so today I am going to discuss the fast-food logos. First of all you see the M from McDonalds when somebody sees a yellow M you immediately recognize it as McDonalds. Under the logo there’s a slogan: I’m loving it. McDonalds uses this slogan on every item you can buy. They also made a song with it and put it in the commercials. That’s a smart marketing tactic because every time somebody here the song you immediately know that’s it McDonalds. On the Burger King logo you see just the name in a circle with the colours red, blue and yellow. It was made in 1969 and the company has adapted the logo several times. Mostly the colours, the colour yellow wasn’t as bright today as a few years back. Burger King was one of the first companies who promoted its brand in a movie. In the year of 1977 in the movie Star Wars, Burger King made glass cups for each character and sold them for millions of dollars. This promotion campaign set Burger King on the map as a big and successful food company. Both of the companies have done their best to make a big brand. I personally think that there’s no clear winner because these two companies will be here forever and no one can bring them down except each other.
Thank you for reading this blog.

Blog 4 Topic 2 McDonalds vs. Burger King

Dear Readers,

This week’s topic is the fast-food industry. I am going to write about McDonalds and Burger King.
Everybody knows these two huge food companies. If we look at the marketing from these companies you will see that they use all sorts of marketing strategies. McDonalds marketing strategy is to get as many customers to the store and there they will get seduced with all the products. This strategy is working very well for the company because it is the biggest fast-food company of the world. McDonalds is using all sorts of marketing tactics like billboards, TV-commercials and sponsoring big events like the Olympic Games. With these tactics the company is foremost targeting families, the opposite of Burger King. Burger King is trying to get younger customers. Burger King is also using a lot of promotion. Lots of people know their famous TV-commercials for men. In 2011 Burger King comes with a burger for women only to get more customers.

Blog 3 Topic 1 I-phone vs. Blackberry

Hello everybody,

This is my follow up to yesterday’s topics the I-phone a Blackberry. I saw 2 billboards today one of each phone so I want to discuss the marketing strategy of each phones with these posters. First one is the Blackberry. The first thing you will notice from this poster is the text about reading the newsletter on the go. Blackberry was very smart to introduce this phone as a computer on the go. Because people want to write an email while they are in the train or read online a newsletter to be up to date. When I saw the poster off the I-phone I immediately understood their strategy. On the poster you see a lot of apps, programs especially for the I-phone. They want you to know that you can have hundreds of thousands of different programs for your I-phone. So you can get your own applications and make it your own. Now the answer to the big question: Which poster is better? I think that the I-phone has won this one, the poster looks much more interesting and beautiful.
That’s it for this topic.

Blog 2 topic 1 I-phone vs. Blackberry

Dear readers,
This week’s topic is the cell phone. I am going to write about the I-phone and the blackberry.
In the 21st century the cell phone became a very important accessory for people from my age. These days the most important thing about the cell is not to call someone but the extras. Like internet, mobile applications, wallpapers, touch screen, qwerty-keyboard etc. I have picked two cells that are very popular at the moment these are the I-phone and Blackberry. The I-phone was launched in 2007 in the U.S.  People saw it not only as a phone but also as a little computer, a smart phone. Apple was able to make a revolutionary product and changed the mobile industry. In 2007 also Blackberry came with a new phone targeting people above the age of 35. Now Blackberry wanted the younger people to buy their phones. It was a huge success also because they introduce ping, a free chat program between all blackberry users.
That’s it for today!

Blog 1 5-12-2010

Hello everybody,
I am Shannon Offerman 18 years old.
I am from Holland and I live in a city that’s called Leidschendam.  I am a student at the Haagse Hogeschool and my major is marketing. Enough about me I will tell you why I am going to write this blog for a couple of weeks. Excuse me for my English, I am working on it!
I have to write a blog for my study marketing.  It’s for my subject business communications so I can learn to make a story fluently and in correct English. My idea is to make a blog about trends and fashion for people of my age. Like things that are a hype at the moment for example an I-phone vs. the blackberry. I will write 2 blogs about one topic and will place pictures next to my stories. Each time I will give 2 sides of a hot item in the media and how the marketing is used. At the end of those 2 blogs I will give you my opinion on who I think had won in my point of view.  I will get my information from internet, TV-commercials or other advertising such as billboards.

Kind regards,
